Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring and testing required to maintain compliance with National State and Local regulations governing the water quality and wastewater treatment process, and storm water and sludge management
  • Assist with the installation and inspection of new equipment and services.
  • Perform the installation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all of their components.
  • Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery.
  • On call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the plants and pump stations.
  • Conduct the necessary checks of the water and Waste treatment plants on a rotating basis.
  • Perform all work in conformance to in country Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
  • Maintain open communications with Site management and Environmental reps regarding the treatment processes and pump stations operation and malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to these systems.
  • Coordinating work operating the water and wastewater treatment plant; operating the plant; maintaining records; conducting tests.
  • Plans and assigns work of plant operators and coordinates activities between shifts.
  • Makes regular tours of all plants and equipment on camp areas.
  • Monitors and records readings from meters, gauges and instruments, reviews laboratory analyses and checks functioning of equipment daily.
  • Starts up, shuts down, regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, compressors, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions; Conducts basic laboratory tests; adjusts pH and chlorine as needed.
  • Inspects plant buildings and equipment; notes need for maintenance and repair work; Assists with maintenance and repair of equipment;
  • Trains new employees and carries out all reviews.
  • Advises and consults with superiors on unusual operating problems or the need for major repairs to equipment;
  • Cleans and clears catch basins, troughs and other components;
  • Prepares and maintains plant and pesticide records and reports;
  • Performs back up duties of interdepartmental positions such as Operator as required;
  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance work;
  • Maintains reasonable and predictable attendance;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Work Requirements 

  • Be able to perform and document various tests required by State and national agencies for the operation of a water and wastewater treatment plant.
  • Perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations.
  • Perform daily checks of the water treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations
  • Have a working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater and water treatment plant.
  • Have a working knowledge of the machinery used for water and wastewater treatment and pumping stations.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Have a working knowledge of basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Have a basic knowledge of State and National rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety.
  • Have the ability to work with independence and to make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment during the Chief Operator’s absence.

Physical Requirements  

  • Have the ability to descend and climb a maximum of 30 rungs to access system pump stations.
  • Have the ability to lift 50 -100 pounds.
  • Have adequate respiratory function to utilize a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
  • Have the ability to detect and differentiate colors.
  • The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
